Arctic sea ice is deteriorating quickly

I shall repeat this same format throughout the melt season.

Here is Margo’s report.

SEA ICE EXTENT

This is what the NSIDC is showing and places like Neven’s sea ice blog emphasise. By concentrating on sea ice extent and ignoring the state of the ice as is now being revealed by Polarstern (and what I have been talking about with Margo for 3 years) they are in denial and guilty of seriously misrepresenting the situation.

Even a mainstream outlet of Reuters is starting to come on board with information that I have known for at least a year – and been shouting from the rooftops.

When I talked about this at the end of the melt season (which went on far longer than previously) the usual response by the ‘experts’ was DENIAL.

SEA ICE THICKNESS

Here is sea ice extent from two different models.

The Navy site has been down; I managed to grab this map before it went down again.

I am unfamiliar with this source but it shows the changes over a few days time

THE VIEW FROM SATELLITE

It is clear enough to determine the actual state of the ice from satellite

SEA ICE CONCENTRATION
You can clearly see how quickly the ice is breaking down in large areas of the Arctic.
