Methane, Sea Ice & Climate Roundup with Margo (August 8, 2021)
MY OWN OBSERVATIONS
As usual the sea ice extent figures tell us very little.
When we can see very little from the satellites it is the US Navy representation of sea ice thickness that tells me most of what is actually happening
The Nares Strait has opened up which provides a way of ice escaping.
It is very cloudy but you can see the state of the ice (which, if the naval figures are correct) is only about 0.5 m thick
There has been unprecedented melt in Greenland this week.
