No, this is not satire.
This is the Facebook message of someone known to me who is a midwife of the new type.
I feel sad to see Jacinda leave office but respect her decision to recover from burnout and prioritise her whānau. It has been meaningful to see someone my own age and demographic in the PM role.
My girls have watched Jacinda with joyful fascination as someone to look up to that demonstrates strong leadership as well as compassion and kindness.
I’ll be forever grateful that she was in office during the pandemic. It’s also been deeply worrying to watch the amount of hate and vitriol she has had to face; arguably more than any previous PM in this age of mis-information.
Kia kaha Jacinda.
I know you have already inspired a generation of leaders for our future.
