Paschal inspiration

On Easter Sunday I found myself drawn to this interview with Paul Kingsworth who I had known previously as an environmental activist and editor of ‘the Ecologist’.

What I discovered was that he had gone through an experience during the early Pandemic that in many respects paralelled my own.

I discovered that he has been baptised into the Romanian Orthodox church.

Here is an essay on his evolution

The Cross and the Machine

“I didn’t know back then that the Christian story is the story of our rebellion against God. I didn’t know that by taking part in that rebellion I had become part of the story, whether I liked it or not. I didn’t know, either, why Christians see pride as the greatest sin. I only knew that I could argue a good case for the injustice of the world made by this “God,” and the silliness of miracles, resurrections, and virgin births. I knew I was cleverer than all the people who believed this sort of rubbish, and I was happy to tell them so”.

“Following the rabbit hole down, I realized that a crisis of limits is a crisis of culture, and a crisis of culture is a crisis of spirit. Every living culture in history, from the smallest tribe to the largest civilization, has been built around a spiritual core: a central claim about the relationship between human culture, nonhuman nature, and divinity. Every culture that lasts, I suspect, understands that living within limits—limits set by natural law, by cultural tradition, by ecological boundaries—is a cultural necessity and a spiritual imperative. There seems to be only one culture in history that has held none of this to be true, and it happens to be the one we’re living in”

ALEXANDR SOLZHENITSYN

That led me to have another look at Alexandr Solzhenitsyn and I spent much of the day watching this. In it I found an explanation of the spiritual desert we are living through right now.

It is long so if you prefer short, bite-sized portions go to the video below

The usual quote, and the one I love is:

“The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either — but right through every human heart — and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. And even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained”

― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 1918–1956

Here is a longer quote:

“Looking back, I saw that for my whole conscious life I had not understood either myself or my strivings. What had seemed for so long beneficial now turned out in actuality to be fatal, and I had been striving to go in the opposite direction to that which was truly necessary to me. But just as the waves of the sea knock the inexperienced swimmer off his feet and keep tossing him back on to the shore, so also was I painfully tossed back on dry land by the blows of misfortune. And it was only because of this that I was able to travel the path which I had always really wanted to travel. It was granted me to carry away from my prison years on my bent back, which nearly broke beneath its load, this essential experience: how a human being becomes evil and how good.

In the intoxication of youthful successes I had felt myself to be infallible, and I was therefore cruel. In the surfeit of power I was a murderer and an oppressor. In my most evil moments I was convinced that I was doing good, and I was well supplied with systematic arguments. And it was only when I lay there rotting on prison straw that I sensed within myself the first stirrings of good. Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either – but right through every human heart – and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us it oscillates with the years. And even within the hearts overwhelmed with evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained. And even in the best of all hearts, there remains…an un-uprooted small corner of evil.”

  1. The discussion between Calvin and Paul is wonderful. Thank you, Robin. as Paul says, contemporary culture is approaching the end point of man’s rebellion against God.

  2. I didn’t watch all the videos. But I did read it all.
“my whole conscious life I had not understood either myself or my strivings. What had seemed for so long beneficial now turned out in actuality to be fatal.”
Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”

There has been a revival of spirituality for sure. Many people are turning to religion.
I was searching before “COVID” because of other things in my life.
Jesus Christ is the Son of Man. He is the foretold saviour of mankind.

I’ve read many holy books. Non-biblical cannon, the Quran, some Babylonian Talmud.
Those off-shoot religions, Hari-krishna’s, Jehovah’s witnesses, Mormon’s, Ba-hai, the native american. I think Navajo end times prophecy. I forget the name. It uses a circle with a Vertical and Horizontal line inside. And Zen or other Eastern religion’s.

After all I’ve read and searched. I don’t think I could worship anyone but Jesus Christ and God the Father. Which are really one part of the “God-head.”

But there is also great apostacy in the Church.

I recommend “Martyn Lloyd Jones.” Or “Walter Martin”
The recordings of their sermons are free online. They are preaching during the late 60-early 80’s’s. But everything applies to the world today. Jones is Welsh (Protestant), I don’t have a problem understanding his accent. Martin is an American Baptist.
    http://www.mljtrust.org/sermons/
Dr. Walter Martin has a lot of theology on the web, and starts with a topic then adds scriptural reference. Where as Martyn J. usually starts with a line of scripture and expands on it.

    1. Here’s part 1 one of a 3 part series by Walter Martin. “The Bible Answer Man.” On Catholicism. Another great sermon is “Historic Pre-Millenialism.” (There is no rapture, it was invented by Darby and other’s in the 1800’s.)
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqKetQTD99g
Walter Martin often starts by saying: “How many of you, have your Bible’s today? Good!”

      1. Canadian sorry, I don’t mean to spam.
But I thought I should mention Dr. Walter Martin was raised in the Catholic Church.

        1. Christian Zionists… There is a densely layered topic.
Rick Wiles is often spot on. He has been Christian, probably longer than I have been alive. Their Sunday services and bible studies are my favorite. The NEWS episodes. Well, I like to avoid NEWS. God is in ultimate control.

One thing Rick said once that I question is “the tribulation is not necessarily 7 years.” Which is true to an extent. We are in tribulation now.

But this is not the same as the Davidic Prophecy, of 3.5 false peace/3.5 years anti-christ dominance and tribulation.
The Davidic prophecy of 7 years. Matt 24:15 Jesus references David. “Abomination of desolation.”
Matt. 24:21 Jesus is referencing the Davidic prophecy. “For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.” Christ doesn’t lie. So He is speaking of “The end.”

But Revelation references 3.5 years, 3 times. Though one verse could be a repetition of a previous verse with different language. As is often the case within the Bible. I’m not a scholar.

Zionist’s if they are true to the term, will side with Bibi, and promote expansion/stealing land. Creating communities, Bull-dozing the former resident’s homes. The West Bank should have stayed part of Jordan, I think.

Israel was one of Pfizer’s test grounds. They don’t care about their people. All those Afrikan leaders who “mysteriously” died. (Murdered) Were trying to protect the people. (Closer to God)
300 000 Rioting. No problem, the Israeli police force is an Army.

They seem to be gearing up for a Holy War. USA is a major funder and quite far from God. There’s enough support for Armageddon. Because of psychological programming and lies about the “end times.”
The religious Jew’s are still expecting a political/military leader who is the messiah.

“Russian soldiers who die in the line of duty in Ukraine have all of their sins forgiven, the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church proclaimed in a sermon.” Works, not Faith. Not Christian doctrine!

Then Turkey is a wildcard. Iran is probably going to “defend” muslims across the middle east. Gen. Wesley Clark 7 Nations in 5 years.
“Starting with Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia and Sudan ending with Iran.” Last I checked everyone but Iran are having a civil war.

Long thanks for reading. Zionist’s are going to have a war. Sometime…
