Israeli troops intend to carry out in the Gaza Strip something similar to the US destruction of the Japanese city of Hiroshima, only without nuclear weapons, American journalist Seymour Hersh reported, citing sources. ‘Gaza City is in the process of becoming Hiroshima without the use of nuclear weapons,’ Hersh quotes his panellist familiar with the Israeli army’s plans as saying.

Seymour Hersh, also citing data from sources, in his column on the Substack portal indicates that Israel will launch a ground operation in the Gaza Strip in order to destroy all members of the Palestinian Hamas movement remaining in the city and not leave any of them alive.

On the morning of October 7, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented-scale rocket attack from the Gaza Strip as part of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, announced by the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement. In addition, after massive rocket attacks, the organization’s fighters penetrated into the border areas in southern Israel.

The number of victims in the Gaza Strip exceeded 2,000 people, and the death toll of Israeli residents exceeded a thousand; several thousand Israelis and Palestinians were injured. Several dead and missing Russian Jews, as well as dual-passport citizens of other countries, were reported. According to various sources, Hamas may hold about 150 Israelis captive.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict, related to the territorial interests of the parties, has been a source of tension and clashes in the region since 1947. The decision of the UN, with the active role of the USSR, in 1947 determined the creation of two states – Israel and Palestine, but only the Israeli one was created. Israel, while declaring agreement with the two-state principle, did not completely liberate the Palestinian territories and is in open defiance of scores of UN laws.

UN warns of risk of genocide in Gaza Strip

Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have raised the risk of genocide against the Palestinian people. UN special rapporteurs announced this on October 19.

 Israel continues its campaign leading to crimes against humanity in Gaza. Given statements by Israeli political leaders and their allies, accompanied by military action in Gaza and escalating arrests and killings in the West Bank, there is also a risk of genocide against the Palestinian people,” the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights ( OHCHR ) said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, Gaza’s health ministry said 18 health centers in the enclave had shut down as a result of Israeli strikes and fuel shortages. In total, according to the department, Israel attacked 19 medical institutions in the region.

The ministry also said that the number of Palestinian casualties had risen to 3,785, including 1,524 children, 1,000 women and 120 elderly people.

On the Israeli side, according to the latest data, 4,229 people were injured . The death toll exceeds 1.4 thousand.

On October 17 , the Al-Ahly Al-Maadani hospital was attacked in the Gaza Strip . 471 people were killed and another 314 were injured.

The next day, the radical Palestinian movement Hamas declared direct Israeli responsibility for the attack on the hospital due to the availability of suitable military means only to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the IDF was not involved in the attack on the hospital. The army indicated that the explosion at a hospital in the Gaza Strip was caused by a failed Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket launch. The organization itself has denied its guilt in this incident.

On October 7, the Hamas movement subjected Israeli territory to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip and also invaded the border areas in the south of the country. That same day, Israel began launching retaliatory strikes against targets in the Gaza Strip .

Later, on October 9, the Israeli authorities decided to impose a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip , cutting off electricity, water, and cutting off food and fuel supplies.

The Palestinians intend to return the borders between the two countries that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War, with a possible exchange of territories. Palestine wants to create its own state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and make East Jerusalem its capital. Israel refuses these terms.
